How to create and manipulate a trimming box and selection box

By pressing the left mouse button in the drawing area you define a first corner of the trimming box. The next mouse movements expand or contract the trimming box and the colors of the trimming box area are inverted. Then until you will keep the left or right mouse button depressed, you are in the trimming box definition mode in which you define the size and/or position of the trimming box.

The size and position of the trimming box in the trimming box definition mode are changed along status of these keys and buttons:

left mouse button - next we will mark a depressed status of this button as L,
right mouse button - next we will mark a depressed status of this button as R,
keyboard Shift key - next we will mark a depressed status of this key as S.

The size of the trimming box in the trimming box definition mode is changed when:

only the left mouse button is depressed - i.e. L,
the right mouse button is depressed simultaneously with the keyboard Shift key (regardless of status of the left mouse button) - i.e. LRS or RS.

Only the position of the trimming box in the trimming box definition mode is changed when:

the right mouse button is depressed and the keyboard Shift key is not pressed (regardless of status of the left mouse button) - i.e. LR or R,
only the left mouse button and the keyboard Shift key are simultaneously depressed - i.e. LS.

The trimming box definition mode is ended as soon as no left nor right mouse button is depressed. So if you want to change the status of mouse buttons in the trimming box definition mode (e.g. you want to change form L status to R status) then there must be a momentary LR status (i.e. you must first depress the right button and only then you can release the left button and vice versa). However note also that you do not need to release the left mouse button in the trimming box definition mode.

Note that after ending the trimming box definition mode the trimming starts automatically if the Dynamically Trim item in the Options menu is checked.

You can also end the trimming box definition mode by these ways:

pressing the middle mouse button (if you have a three button mouse with appropriate mouse driver installed) - this immediately starts trimming,
while depressing the right mouse button double-click with left mouse button - as above this immediately starts trimming,
while depressing the left mouse button double-click with right mouse button - this immediately ends the trimming box definition mode and cancels any defined trimming box.

You can change the size and position of the already defined trimming box (if the Dynamically Trim menu item is not checked). To do this press the right mouse button in the drawing area and then press the left mouse button while keeping right button depressed. Then you will enter into trimming box definition mode in LR state and you can do any changes and actions described above.

Please note that pressing and releasing only the right mouse button in the drawing area displays a quick pop-up menu.
